History of Nagai Nori Co. Ltd.
Senjyuu Nagai was an owner of sake brewery which runs business since 1800s. His relative, Mitsuji Nagai used to work for a famous grocery store called Yamayasu which is also run by his relative. Mitsuji Nagai learned about seaweed business in Ymayasu, and in 1947, he decided to be independent and founded Nagai Nori-ten.
October, 1947: After the World War II, government removed the control on economy and Mitsuji Nagai founded Nagai Nori-ten. Nagai Nori-ten was appointed as a designated wholesaler by the Aichi Prefectural Fishery Cooperation.
March, 1952: Nori manufacturing department was newly founded.
August, 1959: Nagai Nori-ten was changed into two company organizations; Nagai Nori Co. Ltd. was established with capital of 9.5million yen and Nagai Co. Ltd. was established with capital of 7.5 million yen.
October, 1963: Established Main factory.
October, 1966: Nagai Nori Co. Ltd.’s capital was increased to 20 million yen.
October, 1967: Nagai Nori Co. Ltd.’s capital was increased to 23.75 million yen.
February, 1968: Nagai Nori Co. Ltd.’s capital was increased to 28 million yen.
April, 1968: Nagai Co. Ltd.’s capital was increased to 10 million yen.
November, 1968: Nagai Nori Co. Ltd. was appointed as a designated wholesaler by the Kagawa Prefectural Fishery Cooperation.
August, 1969: Nagai Nori Co. Ltd.’s capital was increased to 35 million yen.
September, 1969: Established new factory and women's dormitory.
October, 1969: Nagai Nori’s seasoned seaweed won the “Director General of the Fisheries Agency Prize”.
November, 1969: Nagai Nori Co. Ltd. was appointed as a designated wholesaler by the Chugoku and Shikoku regional Fishery Cooperation.
November, 1969: Dried Shiitake mushroom assembling wholesaler and dried Shiitake mushroom manufacturing and selling department was newly founded.
April, 1970: Nagai Co. Ltd.’s capital was increased to 15 million yen.
November, 1970: Nagai Nori Co. Ltd. was appointed as a designated wholesaler by the All Kyusyu regional Fishery Cooperation.
November, 1970: Nagai Nori Co. Ltd. was appointed as a designated wholesaler by the Miyagi prefectural Fishery Cooperation.
October, 1971: Company dormitory was completed in Toyokawa.
May, 1974: Nagai Nori’s seasoned seaweed won the “Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Prize”.
March, 1975: Moved head office to a Wholesale complex in Fukushima, Toyohashi. (This is where we are today) Established new factory and distribution center.
December, 1977: Nagai Co. Ltd.’s capital was increased to 30 million yen.
August, 1978: Lease department was separated and established Nagai lease Ltd.
October, 1978: Nagai Nori’s roasted seaweed won the “Director General of the Fisheries Agency Prize”.
April, 1980: Established Nagai Shiitake mushroom Co. Ltd.
May, 1981: Nagai Nori was the first company to receive an investment from Nagoya Small and Medium Business Investment & Consultation Co.,Ltd as a distribution section.
April, 1984: Packer department was separated and established Nagai packer Ltd.
June, 1984: Opened Hokuriku sales office.
January, 1985: Opened Osaka sales office.
February, 1985: Opened Nagoya sales office.
March, 1985: Opened Shizuoka sales office.
January, 1986: Nagai Shiitake mushroom Co. Ltd.’s capital was increased to 10 million yen.
May, 1986: Nagai Nori’s roasted seaweed won the “Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Prize”.
September, 1987: Nagai Shiitake mushroom Co. Ltd.’s refrigerated warehouse was completed. July, 1994: Established new head office building. Expansion of factory was completed.
September, 1999: Established Nagai Foods Co. Ltd. following a merger between Nagai Shiitake mushroom Co. Ltd. and Nagai packer Ltd.
November, 2000: Nagai Nori Co. Ltd.’s capital was increased to 70 million yen.
August, 2001: Acquired ISO9002.
September, 2002: Received Shiitake mushroom division from Nagai Foods Co. Ltd.
June, 2003: Renewed ISO9001.
September, 2003: Nagai Co. Ltd. was merger into Nagai Nori co. Ltd. with capital of 98 million yen.
June, 2004: Established Nagai Natural Food Corporation (NNC).
July, 2007: Renewed ISO9001.
August, 2008: Nagai Natural Food Corporation was merger into Nagai Nori co. Ltd.
September, 2008: Established a second factory for the business-use seaweed.
October, 2008: Installed automatic production line for 1/3 sized roasted seaweed.
February, 2009: Installed automatic production line for 1/8 sized seasoned seaweed.
August, 2009: Nagai Nori Co. Ltd. marks 50th anniversary.
March, 2010: Tokyo branch office.
February, 2013: Nagoya branch office.
February, 2014: Acquired Halal certificate on roasted seaweed from Nippon Asia Halal Association.
